Audience Feedback

In order to gain audience feedback we had to create a questionnaire. We then uploaded our media products onto websites such as facebook and youtube so people could answer these questions. I placed the results in prezi.

I asked 5 people people to rate the media products on a scale of 1-5 (1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest) Some of the qualities rated were it is was informative, entertaining and eye catching. I have recorded someone rating the documentary, radio advert and newspaper advert.

Newspaper Advertisement Production

I was given the job to make the print advert, meaning I had to take the pictures that would be on it and edit it all on Adobe Photoshop.

I first took pictures of Golden Retriever

Yet when I looked back over them I realised that they were too dark so I had to retake the shots.

Retake of the shots

I made sure this time that there was a lot of light and took as many as I could to make sure that I had the right one for the print advert.

I then had to find an man and take his picture with a newspaper in his mouth. I took his photo from both sides and quite a few so I had a range to choose from. here is some of the better ones.

Below are the two images that were picked for to be put onto the poster.

once the photos had been taken I was then able to start the editing process of the newspaper advertisement. I did this on Adobe Photoshop and print screened the whole thing.

Drafting Newspaper Advertisement

Before the editing process could begin I had to draw a draft of the newspaper advert. This will be helpful as when I start editing I can look at it to see what needs to be added.

Codes and Conventions of Newspaper Advertisements

Before the newspaper could be edited we had to look at the codes and the conventions of newspaper adverts so we knew exactly what we would have to do when we eventually started to make it.

Recording and Editing Radio Trailer

After we recorded the voice over we were able to edit the radio trailer. This would also include clips from the documentary which would hopefully entice the audience in. I have placed the editing process in prezi.

Sunday, 2 December 2012

Scripting Radio Trailer

Once listening to real radio trailers we then had to write our own. This would include what the voice over we said and the clips we would use.

Saturday, 1 December 2012

Codes and Conventions of Radio Trailers

We had to look at the codes and conventions of radio trailers so we would know what we needed to do when the time came to make our own. This included listening to real radio trailers and taking notes on specific areas.

Scripting Voiceover

During the editing process we had left spaces in the documentary for where the voice over would be. These consisted of before sections and the voice over would be used as a introduction to it (to let the audience know what they are about to watch.

Editing

Once all the planning was done we were finally able to start editing our documentary on Premiere Pro CS6. We each had a go at editing at some point and have collected screen grabs of the process and put them all in prezi.

Once the editing process had been done we needed to email the production companies that owned the sogns we wanted to use and ask their permission if we could use them.

Edit Decision List

We were told to create an edit decision list before we started editing. This consisted of us planning each shot we would use and putting them in the order that they would appear. This would be used and looked at as we edited our documentary.

Logging Sheet

Over the duration of filming we used three memory cards. Over the course of the filming we would log in the shots that we had done, a short description of the shot and whether or not it was a good take or a bad take.

Filming Still Images

On 27th November 2012 after looking through our videos again we realised that we needed to film one more thing; still images. So me and Chloe printed off three images and filmed them. We zoomed in on certain areas and filmed them with no camera technique so we had a range to choose from.

Third Try at Voxpop

Chloe and I went out on Monday 12th November to Liverpool to try and film our voxpop again. This time was a success as we got 7 people to answer our questions. Although we did have to move location due to us not being able to film at a certain place without permission (We were at Liverpool One) but we soon found another place we were allowed to film at.

Interviews with Dog Owners. Filmed Opening Title

On 5th November Alex and I went to my house to film three interviews and all of which were dog owners. We first interviewed a dog owner named Claire inside the house who had come round just for the interview. Once we has finished asking the questions we went outside to film my dogs for the cutaways of the interviews with Tommy and Thomas as it was getting dog and we really needed the shots. We filmed the two dogs together and separate. When that had been done we went inside to film Tommy and Thomas.

Once all the interviews had been done we then started to film our opening title sequence. This included us drawing on a dog bowl the words `Paws For Thought` and then pouring dog biscuits into the bowl and letting the dog each the biscuits from it. At first we were going to write the letters with dog biscuits but we tried that and not all the letters would fit in the bowl.

Second Try at Voxpop

On Monday 5th October all three of us went to Central Park to have another go at the voxpop. There were many people with dogs yet declined to answer our questions. The journey was not a complete waste as we were able to film the dogs walking past yet it means we will have to go back out again to film the voxpop.

Monday, 29 October 2012

First Try at Voxpop

On Monday 29th October all three of us went to liscard to do our voxpop. We spent 2 lessons (45 minutes each) and after asking many people only two would answer our questions about dogs on camera. the people who declined either said that they did not own a dog, were too busy or simple wouldn`t answer our questions.

The questions were:
  1. What is your favourite type of dog and why?
  2. if you could be any dog, wat would you be and why?
  3. What is the best part about owning a dog?
  4. How long have you owned dogs?
  5. There is a statement saying that owners look like there dogs. Do you agree with this statement, do you look like your dog?
We will need to go out and have another go at the voxpop.

Planning

For every interview we did we had to draw a single frame of each one of the interviews which shows the intended framing of the interviewee and mise-en-scene

The image above is for the interview at Barks Pets and since we are filming at the shop the mise-en-scene will include dog products.

The images above and below are both different locations for the interview with the dog owners. The one above has a mise-en-scene of inside, just on a chair and the outside location includes a field in the background.

The image above is for the interview with the dog walker and the mise-en-scene will be minimal as not to distract the audience away from him.

The one above is for the guide dog trainer and as she is coming into school we will be sat in a chair in school.

The image above i for the guide dog  walker volunteer interview will be done in school so the mise-en-scene will include a chair and minimal background.

We also had to plan out our storyboard for the opening title

Another part of the planning process was to come up with the questions for the interviews we would being. Each set of questions had to be relevant to the interviewee and their reason for being interviewed. For example a dog owner would be asked questions about their dog but a guide dog walker would be asked about how they train the dogs.

Running Order

In lesson we were told to create a running order for our documentary. This included the whole documentary and not just the 5 minutes we would be filming.

Research For Documentary

One of the main things we had to do was conduct research for our programme. This would help us to gain a further knowledge about the subject and to have a better understanding of what we are making a documentary on. This includes both primary and secondary research.

Formal Proposal For Documentary

In lesson we were told to come up with ideas and agree on final plans. These included the topic of documentary, the type and style of the documentary and the research needed to make it. Once we had discussed all our ideas we went through the positive and negatives of each idea.

Brainstorm of Content For Documentary

In the lesson we were told to come up possible content for our documentary. This resulted in a list of possible interviews that can be done, archive material that can be used, cutaways that we may film and the style of the voice over.

Target Audience Research

We had to create a questionnaire in order to gain audience feedback. The results to this will enable us to have a better understanding of what types of things people like and we can incorporate them into our production.
