First Try at Voxpop

On Monday 29th October all three of us went to liscard to do our voxpop. We spent 2 lessons (45 minutes each) and after asking many people only two would answer our questions about dogs on camera. the people who declined either said that they did not own a dog, were too busy or simple wouldn`t answer our questions.

The questions were:
  1. What is your favourite type of dog and why?
  2. if you could be any dog, wat would you be and why?
  3. What is the best part about owning a dog?
  4. How long have you owned dogs?
  5. There is a statement saying that owners look like there dogs. Do you agree with this statement, do you look like your dog?
We will need to go out and have another go at the voxpop.

Planning

For every interview we did we had to draw a single frame of each one of the interviews which shows the intended framing of the interviewee and mise-en-scene

The image above is for the interview at Barks Pets and since we are filming at the shop the mise-en-scene will include dog products.

The images above and below are both different locations for the interview with the dog owners. The one above has a mise-en-scene of inside, just on a chair and the outside location includes a field in the background.

The image above is for the interview with the dog walker and the mise-en-scene will be minimal as not to distract the audience away from him.

The one above is for the guide dog trainer and as she is coming into school we will be sat in a chair in school.

The image above i for the guide dog  walker volunteer interview will be done in school so the mise-en-scene will include a chair and minimal background.

We also had to plan out our storyboard for the opening title

Another part of the planning process was to come up with the questions for the interviews we would being. Each set of questions had to be relevant to the interviewee and their reason for being interviewed. For example a dog owner would be asked questions about their dog but a guide dog walker would be asked about how they train the dogs.

Running Order

In lesson we were told to create a running order for our documentary. This included the whole documentary and not just the 5 minutes we would be filming.

Research For Documentary

One of the main things we had to do was conduct research for our programme. This would help us to gain a further knowledge about the subject and to have a better understanding of what we are making a documentary on. This includes both primary and secondary research.

On Wednesday 17th October all three of us went to Barks Pets (A pet shop in wallasey) to interview not only someone who works their but a dog owner as well. This trip proved useful as we were able to film the cutaways there and then. We filmed the inside and outside the shop and her dog as well.

Interview With Guide Dog Volunteer

On Monday 15th October we were very lucky as the school had a Guide Dog Walker Volunteer come into the school to give a talk about what she does. We were not only able to conduct an interview with her and film her dog but also film the talk that she did to the class. She also played a video to the class and we were able to get a copy of it to use.

Cutaways Filmed for Dog Walker

On Wednesday 10th we (all three of us) went out to film the cutaways for the interview with the dog walker. We went to the park and filmed many different shots, from low angle to high angle and panned as they walked. We zoomed in and out at parts. We took photos of the dog throughout.

Interview With a Dog Walker

On Tuesday 9th October all three of us went out to film an interview with dog walker Stephen Williams. The interview went well although framing could have been better for it but we were able to arrange to film him the next day with one of the dogs he walks.
